今日も熱気の中での作業でした。日に日に気温湿度ともに増しています。

最近は7月24日の出展準備や通常の受注、レギュラー製品の染色等で多少バタバタしてますが良い汗をかいてます(笑)

そんな中この夏特に人気の高い「淡藤色」「滅紫」という色目があります。これに使用している染料がちょっと特殊なんです。

「五倍子」(ごばいし)という植物で、染色ではとても有名なんですが、実はこれ虫こぶなんです。

ヌルデという木にヌルデミミフシという蛾が卵を産みその際にできるこぶです。。話しだけ聞くとすごくグロいイメージですが、とても上品な赤味のある灰色に染まります。単独でも仕様しますがインド茜との染め重ねでさらに赤味を増して「紅藤色」という赤紫のような妖艶な色目にも！

硬くて中が空洞になってるんですが煮出すときはこれを砕きます。お湯にかけるとドロドロぐちゃぐちゃに。。↓

このビジュアルから上の画像のような色がでるのはホントに神秘的です。

染色に使われた歴史は古く江戸時代にはお歯黒に使われていたそうで、漢方としても使用されています。

それにしてもこれを染色に使うという発想はすごいですよね。

そんな植物染料の歴史やその当時の情景に思いを馳せながら染めるのもこの仕事の楽しみの一つでもあります。

最近自宅に近所の猫がよく遊びに来てくれます。癒されます。隠し撮りされてました笑
